Dear Sir,
I am writing to support the nomination of Roger Kerr for an honour.
I have known Roger for nearly twenty years from the time I first became a member of the New Zealand Business Roundtable of which I subsequently became Chairman. In that time, I got to know Roger very well and worked particularly closely with him in my role as Chairman.
This close relationship gave me a great insight into him as a person. Roger impressed with his first-class intellect, his grasp of economics and the importance of high quality public policy to the success of New Zealand.
Roger’s rigorous analysis and critiquing of public policy led to many ad hominen attacks on him but I rarely, if ever, remember any of his opponents logically rebutting his arguments.
Roger has left an indelible mark for the better on New Zealand’s economy, particularly through the period of reform in the 1980s through to the early 1990s which he influenced greatly.
Roger has always had the courage of his convictions and brought a strong ethical focus to the work that he has done. I believe, over time, Roger will be recognized more broadly than he is today for his work and commitment to making New Zealand a better place.
Roger, in my view, truly is a great New Zealander who deserves recognition.
Yours faithfully,
Sir Ralph Norris, KNZM
